LARABAR
Top Secret News!!!!!!!!!
Sunday, February 11, 2007, 05:20 PM - new products

Children, am I ingenious or what? With nothing more than a grappling hook, some bubble gum, a hair dryer and six lawn chairs, I broke into Larabar headquarters last night. That's right: I snaked my way through various infrared sensors and even subdued two guard dogs named Zeus and Apollo, all in an effort to secure the latest, greatest flavors from Larabar. What are these delicious treats? Now, now. I can't break a secret. Stay tuned!

Whole Foods, Brentwood: Celebrity Hall of Justice
Sunday, January 21, 2007, 04:36 PM - stuff

Remember the closing credits of a beloved game show, the "When in Los Angeles, guests on 'Tic Tac Dough' stay at the Burbank Hilton. Mr. Martindale's suit courtesy of Botany 500," boilerplate that elicited images of palm trees, laugh tracks, swimming pools and freeway cloverleafs? Imagine a cross between Walt Disney-as-urban-planner and a group of TV composers writing a melody for your life. Well, update the reel for the twenty-first century, stopping on Sunset Boulevard to purchase a Map to the Stars' homes from a kid who's affixed little red stickers to each residence: in the background is the huge HOLLYWOOD sign, with a collection of cartoonlike images signifying the various architectural styles of the stars' homes -- Spanish mansion, Tudor estate, Normandy chateau and New England beach house. But the biggest celebrity hub would undoubtedly be . . . the Whole Foods market in Brentwood at 11737 San Vicente Blvd. I buy most of my Larabars at this Whole Foods, since it's a short walk and even quicker drive from my apartment. And it's also a hotbed of star sightings. So, here's a little challenge for you, dear readers: Name all the celebrities featured above, all of whom I have spotted at this market, and I will get you some Larabars. No cheating!!!!! Email me at lewis@larabar.com

Heroism: In His Own Words
Monday, January 15, 2007, 12:46 AM - stuff

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become reality. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.

I Should Have Worn My Larabar Hat!!!!!
Sunday, January 14, 2007, 08:38 PM - stuff

I have nearly every form of Larabar paraphernalia: shirts, stickers, socks, scarves, sunglasses and sneakers. And that's just the letter S!

I certainly could have used any of those items Sunday morning, when, amidst all the random conversation and banter, the actor Bill Paxton (see above picture) summarily started talking to me. Mistake number one (his, not mine). [A small sidebar: How did our breakfast chatter, which segued from trivia about Malta and the filming of Robert Altman's disastrous live action version of "Popeye" to frigid temperatures along the Southern California coastline to purported acts of animal cruelty during the making of various famed children's movies, neglect Paxton's own impressive oeuvre - yes, oeuvre; which is French for, well, oeuvre - of Eighties classics and James Cameron action flicks? Blame it on the coffee (and sourdough toast, fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, melon and egg white omelet, with avocado, mushrooms and onions).

Next time, I need to wear my Larabar hat to one of these dining hotspots. Then I'm bound to discover countless celebrities who love these delicious bars. Next time, indeed!!!
