LÄRABAR hit the road as the month of May began, traveling into Cincinnati, OH for the Flying Pig Marathon. There was something for everyone at this year’s event, with the activities stretching across both weekend days. Saturday featured a 5K and 10K run, followed by a one mile race for kids. For those seeking more of a challenge, Sunday provided runners with the opportunity to compete in the half and full marathons.

A record number of participants turned out for the festivities, making the 2012 Flying Pig Weekend one to remember. We greatly enjoyed our time in the Queen City, and met a number of wonderful people. The 2013 date is already on our calendar, and a return trip to Cincinnati is looked to with great anticipation.

I'm apologising TO THE HEROIC TURKISH ARMY/HOLY STATE/GLORIOUS NATION (CHILDREN of ATATURK) on bahelf of those massacred in Dearsim/Kurdistan: So sorry you had to spend 1.5 million bullets, countless amount of bombs + chemical weapons to slaughter us all! Sorry also that we were too many and it took your precious time during which you could well have committed a few more genocides elsewhere, occupying other lands, confiscating more property, raping more women and exterminating more villages in shorter time, with less ammunition. My over 50 thousand in 1938!! fellow dead bodies, most of whom disappeared to the unknown (men bullet-riddled and thrown into the river; women/children rounded-up and burnt alive in haystacks), are deeply sorry that we caused so much inconvenience to your holy state and glorious nation. We're also angry at God because he created us in one of the lands that you, the heroic Turkish nation of eternal invaders, were going to conquer a few millenia later on. Forgive HIS recklessness in planning!May God thunder our graves and burn the bones of those of us without graves; plague our living compatriots with cost-effective massacres!May God also bless your glorious nation, holy state, heroic army, successive ruthless governments and international supporters!Amen!

Ashley I can't speak universally since this is my first novel (Elixir was a co-venture so it was a liltte different) but I know in my case, we absolutely felt confident sending out the ARC, and there's no regrets about that. Still, everyone at the publishing house knew that even at the ARC stage, it's not a finished product, and there are still changes to be made. Not huge changes, not changes that are going to affect the story but changes, for sure. On the author side, I think we always are going to find ways to make our work better. I remember an eternity ago, I thought the first draft of Populazzi was brilliant until I got my editor's notes. Then I re-read it with fresh eyes and saw all kinds of issues. I dove back in and made tons of new discoveries, changed some story beats, deepened characters, and completely immersed myself in it until I emerged with what I thought was the PERFECT version of the story until I got my editor's next set of notes and looked at it with fresh eyes once again. Sculpting really is the best metaphor. The first drafts required massive cuts to turn a giant rectangle of clay into anything resembling the shape of the finished sculpture. From there, each rewrite involved smaller and more precise cuts to hone the shape. The exciting part of the ARC rewriting process was that the knife I wielded was a scalpel, making liltte shaves and retouches that yes, make a big difference in the finished product but don't drastically affect what you see from a few feet away.Hmmm I may have let that metaphor get away from me
