• What is unique about LÄRABAR?
LÄRABAR is a delicious blend of unsweetened fruits, nuts and spices. Made from whole food, each flavor contains no more than nine ingredients. Pure and simple, just as nature intended.
• What are the quality standards for LÄRABAR ingredients?
Gluten free
Dairy free*
Soy free*
All natural
Vegan*
Kosher
Fair Trade Certified™ cocoa and coffee
No added sugars or sweeteners*
Non-GMO
No added sulfites
*Does not include the Chocolate Chip varieties. Chocolate chip flavors are made with a simple, 4-ingredient chocolate chip that consists of Fair Trade Certified™ chocolate, sugar, cocoa butter and vanilla. While no dairy is used to make our chocolate chips, they are made on a line that also produces chocolate chips made with dairy and soy. Due to possible cross-contact, the chips we use may contain trace amounts of dairy or soy from other chips made at the facility; thus we cannot claim these products as Dairy Free, Soy Free or Vegan.
• Is LÄRABAR unprocessed?
LÄRABAR is made by a simple process in which fruit, nuts, and spices are ground and mixed together. They are not baked or cooked. We use simple ingredients, as close to their natural state as possible.
• Does LÄRABAR have added vitamins, minerals or supplements?
No. LÄRABAR only contains the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients inherent in the simple, natural ingredients we use – the way nature created them.
• What is the shelf life of a LÄRABAR?
The shelf life for each bar is 12 months. We use a multi-layer package that keeps out UV light which, in turn, maintains freshness without the use of preservatives. The “best by” date may be found printed on the back panel of the wrapper (on the underside of the flap that runs lengthwise down the back of the bar) as well as on the back panel of the caddie box (contains 16 bars).
• How much fruit does a LÄRABAR provide?
Each LÄRABAR flavor offers at least a ¼ cup of fruit. Tropical Fruit Tart, Apple Pie, and Cherry Pie each offer a ½ cup of fruit in each full-size bar.
• Why doesn't the packaging for the chocolate chip flavors varieties feature the Dairy Free, Soy Free or Vegan claims?
Though the vast majority of chocolate chips in the world are made with dairy, soy or both, we specifically asked our supplier to provide us with chocolate chips that are Vegan (containing no dairy). While no dairy or soy is used to make our chocolate chips, they are made on a line that also produces chocolate chips made with dairy and soy. Due to possible cross contact between types of chocolate chips made at the facility, the chips we use may contain trace amounts of dairy or soy from those other chips, thus we cannot claim these chocolate chip flavors are Dairy Free, Soy Free or Vegan.
• Why are the chocolate chip flavor varieties classified as Kosher Dairy?
Our chocolate chip flavors are classified as Kosher Dairy (symbolized by the "U" within a circle, followed by a "D") because the chocolate chip ingredient is produced in a facility that also produces chocolate containing dairy.
• Is there added sugar in LÄRABAR?
There is no sugar added to the core line of LÄRABAR. The claim “No Added Sugar” appears next to the nutrition panel. The exception to this is the chocolate chip flavors (Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chip Brownie, and Chocolate Chip Cherry Torte), which contain added sugar in the actual chocolate chips.
• Do the chocolate chip flavor varieties contain sugar? If so, what kind?
Yes. The simple, 4-ingredient chocolate chips in our chocolate chip varieties contain cane sugar.
• Where does the cocoa in LÄRABAR come from?
The cocoa used in LÄRABAR is sourced from farmers who are Fair Trade Certified™ by Fair Trade USA. The organization's mission is to "Enable sustainable development and community empowerment by cultivating a more equitable global trade model that benefits farmers, workers, consumers, industry and earth." For more information, visit Fair Trade USA.
• What is Extra Virgin Coconut Oil?
Extra Virgin Coconut Oil is a tropical oil that is extracted using a cold-pressed method from fresh coconuts.
• Where do the juice concentrates and flavorings used in Lemon Bar, Tropical Fruit Tart, Key Lime Pie, and Blueberry Muffin come from?
The citrus juice concentrates that we use are made from pure citrus juice and pulp, which is flash pasteurized to ensure it is safe to consume. The citrus flavors we use are made from a cold press process during which the fruit skin yields pure essential oil.
Our blueberry concentrate is extracted from blueberries through the use of a natural enzyme process. The concentrate is pasteurized.
• How much caffeine is in LÄRABAR Cappuccino?
Cappuccino contains approximately 8.5 milligrams of caffeine per bar. By comparison, a cup of decaf coffee = 2 to 4mg, a cup of decaf tea = 2 to 9mg. A regular cup of coffee = 65 to 150mg, a regular cup of tea = 20 to 90mg. (1 cup = 6oz.)
• Where does the fat in LÄRABAR come from?
The fat in LÄRABAR comes from nuts and, in some cases, coconut or chocolate.
• Why isn't there more protein in LÄRABAR?
Each bar contains between 3-6 grams of protein. To provide more protein in our bars, we'd have to add ingredients like soy protein isolates. Why mess with a good thing?
• Will a LÄRABAR freeze or melt?
If placed in the freezer or outside in cold temperatures, LÄRABAR will become firmer, but will not freeze. Similarly, LÄRABAR (with the exception of the flavors containing chocolate chips) will not melt when heated.
• What is unique about über?
Über is a unique sweet and salty snack made from whole fruits and nuts. It’s big texture with big taste!
• Why did you name it über? What does it mean?
We wanted a name that matched the extreme texture, taste, and total difference between this bar and our original LÄRABAR. Simply put, über is an experience that is super duper, wicked awesome, and seriously epic.
• Does über contain sugar?
Über does not use any refined sugar. It contains only natural, non-sucrose sweeteners from brown rice syrup, honey, and fruit.
• Is über vegan?
Due to the use of honey, über is not certified as vegan.
• Does über contain soy? What about dairy?
Über bars do not directly contain soy or dairy products or byproducts. However, they are produced in a facility that makes other products that do contain soy and dairy. Because of this we are unable to certify über as “soy free” or “dairy free.”
• Do the dried fruits contain added sugar?
No. Über does not contain any added or refined sugar and the dried fruits are unsweetened. The only sugar in the bars comes naturally from fruit, brown rice syrup, and honey.
• What makes up brown rice syrup? Why do you use it?
Brown rice syrup, also known as “rice syrup,” is a natural sweetener that comes from the starch of brown rice. The combination of cooked rice and natural enzymes allows the starches to break down to produce a sweetened liquid. The liquid is then filtered and excess water is evaporated to thicken it. Brown rice syrup is used in über as a naturally sweetened binder to hold the ingredients together and keep the bar firm.
• What is the shelf life of an über bar?
The shelf life of an über bar is 9 months.
• Who does your Kosher certification on these bars?
LÄRABAR is Orthodox Kosher certified. For more information, please contact:

• Do über bars melt? Do they freeze?
When exposed to extreme heat, über will become softer. As the heat rises, the binding/syrup will become less tight and the ingredients will potentially break apart. When frozen, über will not freeze all the way through. That said, the Roasted Nut Roll flavor will become more brittle and harder than the other flavors. Once the bar has reached room temperature, it will return to its normal consistency.
• What is the “roasting” process for the nuts in Roasted Nut Roll?
All of the nuts are dry-roasted and no oil is added. Depending on the type of nut, our vendors use different processes. More detailed information is confidential and cannot be shared.

• I heard LÄRABAR was purchased by General Mills.
LÄRABAR was acquired by the Natural and Organic Division of General Mills called Small Planet Foods in June 2008.
• How has LÄRABAR changed since the acquisition?
LÄRABAR will always be committed to making simple and delicious food. We also value having a meaningful, open, transparent relationship with our consumers. We are very excited to be a part of General Mills and we assure you that LÄRABAR is 100% committed to the core values on which we were founded.
• I noticed some changes to the packaging.
Our goal is to make the best product we can. Over the years, we have challenged ourselves to evolve and get better at what we do. Periodically, we review our packaging to make sure that it still speaks to the LÄRABAR community, and to ensure that we are in compliance with all governing bodies.
• What does "Fair Trade" or "Fair Trade Certified" mean?
The cocoa and coffee used in JŎCALAT and LÄRABAR is sourced from farmers who are Fair Trade Certified™ by Fair Trade USA. The organization's mission is to "Enable sustainable development and community empowerment by cultivating a more equitable global trade model that benefits farmers, workers, consumers, industry and earth." • Why aren’t all LÄRABAR flavours available in Canada?
The LÄRABARs available in Canada represent the most popular selling flavours. There are several factors for offering a reduced number of flavours, one of which is to honour our commitment to meeting the expectations of our reselling partners and their customers. Of course, we are always considering future opportunities to bring new flavours to Canada.
If you are interested in ordering U.S.-only flavours, www.iherb.com does ship LÄRABARs internationally.
• Why are the flavour names different in Canada?
The messaging and claims that we print on our packaging must satisfy both FDA (USA) and Health Canada regulations. Due to minor differences between the two countries, the flavour names are slightly varied, i.e. “Cashew Cookie” in the USA = “Cashew - Noix de Cajou” in Canada.
